Facebook’s Removing a Range of Location Tracking Tools as Data Regulations Continue to Evolve

According to Meta, these services will be discontinued after May 31st, 2022, at which point Meta will cease collecting the data necessary to power these elements, even if you had previously enabled them. According to Meta, all previously logged information pertaining to these functions will be destroyed on August 1st.

“While we’re deprecating some location-based features on Facebook due to low usage, people can still use Location Services to manage how their location information is collected and used.”

LinkedIn Updates Feed Algorithm to Downrank Engagement-Baiting Posts and Polls

LinkedIn users dislike engagement baiting posts. These posts specifically request or encourage the community to interact with the material through likes or reactions. This type of content can be deceptive and frustrating for LinkedIn users, who are mostly professionals.

LinkedIn also recognises that polls are frequently utilised by social media marketers since they are straightforward and easy for the audience to engage with. To combat this, their algorithm will only display polls that are useful and relevant.

LinkedIn also published a paper titled “5 Key Ingredients for a Unified Brand,” which contained a table format outlining how marketers may assist in finding the correct story for each audience (page 15). LinkedIn Feed Algorithm Updates

LinkedIn users can now opt out of political content within the app. While it does not influence everyone, persons in political and advocacy roles may become involved, affecting platform reach and performance for select users and brands.

LinkedIn is attempting to reduce notification volume, so you will receive fewer updates from your network. Instead, it will display more targeted activity from your network, where you are more likely to participate in the conversation or interact with the post. (For example, if you don’t know that other person, you may not get much value from reading a connection’s comment on someone else’s post about a job move, thus they will show fewer such posts.)

Instagram Will Enable Users to Upload Photos and Videos via Desktop from This Week

Instagram announced that users can now post images and videos from the desktop, as of October 21. Other than images, videos of up to 1 minute will be supported.

How to do it?

  • Click the new + icon in the top right corner to get started (next to the Messenger icon)
  • Follow the prompts to upload your photos or videos (drag and drop or “Select From Computer”)
  • Choose your size/format
  • Pick your filter and/or edit (tab at the top)
  • Add your caption/location, and more
  • Choose Share

You may add alt text to each image on the desktop version; if you’re uploading multiple images, this can help enhance SEO for the post by assisting the Instagram algorithm in determining what the image is about. While the main goal is to make your content accessible to users with visual impairments, it can also help to boost the chance of your post appearing on your target users’ Instagram accounts’ ‘Explore’ page. Even though Instagram analyses each post using image recognition, alt text guarantees that your content is seen by the right people.

Instagram Adds New Data Analytics to Provide More Performance Insight for Marketers

Instagram’s looking to provide more data for marketers with an update to its Insights element for business and creator profiles. The new metrics being added to Instagram insights are:

  • Accounts engaged – This will show the total number of accounts that interacted with your content in a given time period
  • Engaged audience – This data will provide demographic insights into the users that are engaging with your content, whether they follow your profile or not, including top cities, top countries, top age ranges and gender
  • Reached Audience – Similar to Engaged Audience, this will provide demographic information about the people you’ve reached with your posts in a given time period, including top cities, top countries, top age ranges and gender

Facebook’s frequent update on policies and restrictions.

If the ad fails to perform the following, Facebook has begun to reject more ads that direct traffic to websites.

  • There is no mention of any political figures giving a talk or a speech in the Ad.
  • The ad talks about social issues but has no disclaimer mentioned.
  • The partner is not tagged in partnered content.

How to tackle this rejection?

As of now, the solutions are vague, and brands that aren’t large spenders are frequently overlooked.

LinkedIn Publishes New ‘Inclusive Language’ Guide to Help Improve Brand Communications

Inclusion has become increasingly important in recent years. As we spend more time online, we are exposed to more content, and individuals are becoming more aware of what constitutes “politically acceptable” wording. As a result, it’s critical for content creators to be cautious about the language they choose.

Words like “blacklist,” “whitelist,” “salesman,” and “chairman” are typically avoided since they refer to a specific race or gender.

KRDS India, launches India’s first Celebrity based Facebook ChatBOT for the Promotion of the movie Kaabil

As fans of Hrithik Roshan eagerly await the trailer of his upcoming movie “Kaabil”, we saw an opportunity to engage the fans in an interesting conversation with the Star himself!

Just after the success of the ChatBOT for the promotion of the movie M.S Dhoni, KRDS India suggested an engaging Facebook Chatbot on the pages of the actors Hrithik and Yami through which their fans can interact with them and receive the trailer of the movie personally on a one on one chat.

The Facebook Chatbot, that is currently hosted on the Messenger of Hrithik and Yami’s . Facebook Page  is accessible both on desktop and mobile. To interact with the stars, users can either search for the stars’ respective pages on their Facebook Messenger, or just visit their facebook pages (Hrithik Roshan | Yami Gautham) and click on “Message” .

The BOT is a simple conversational BOT that interacts with the Fans with an audio message from the Star through which they communicate that they will personally share the trailer link to those people who pinged them on messenger.
The trailer of the movie will be automatically shared on the date of the trailer launch (on 26th October) with the user through the BOT. Users also get a personally autographed poster of the movie from the star with a special message.

11,000 Bots on Messenger and Counting

In a blog post made on July 1, Facebook confirmed that over 11,000 Bots were now live on Messenger. Since the launch of Facebook Messenger Bots, there has been an increasing number of businesses worldwide jumping on the bandwagon to provide a unique and more efficient solution to their interaction with users.
Facebook reported that an estimated 23,000 and more developers are now signed up to use Wit.ai an application that provides tools for businesses to create their own conversational user interfaces.
However, this does not come without criticism from sceptical users. Critics argue that a bot does not add value to a conversation and often is incapable of understanding complex human interaction. Many developers still stand their ground foreseeing the future of technology and business resting on the use of chat bots on Messenger.
With Facebook’s latest updates to the user interface, many important issues have been addressed, such as a comprehensive menu of options that enables users to get a bigger picture of the bot and set expectations for what it can do. Another important addition is the ratings and review update that helps the community of users come together to share their experience and feedback about the bot.
The addition of this ratings and review update comes with a burden for developers to ensure the bot does exactly what it promises to deliver. This opens a window for healthy competition amongst businesses to acquire a higher rating than their competitors. The new update also includes an option to Mute a bot similar to how users may block their friends. This update arguably changes the Messenger Bot landscape which previously lacked the openness for feedback.
As the number of submissions for the Messenger Bot increase by each passing day, the interest in conversational user interfaces does not seem to be dying down any time soon.

Top 5 Messenger Bot Updates and its Impact on Bot Strategy

On 1st July, Facebook rolled out several new updates for the Messenger Bot. Here is a review of the top 5 new features and how it can impact your Bot strategy.

Dynamic Buttons for Quick Replies

To introduce a more direct conversation with users, ten dynamic buttons can now be accessed from the bot that are related to the most recent messages in the conversation. Instead of sourcing button selections from previous conversations, the dynamic buttons help set the conversation flow and only displays the selected user responses on the bot. This makes the chat look cleaner and provides a more human like interaction.

A New Menu Interface

In the earlier bot version, menu buttons on the bot were accessed by providing specific text commands such as ‘On Sale’ or ‘Go Shopping’. However, with the latest update we see an introduction of an icon placed on the message composer that enables users to choose from different options. This eliminates the earlier problem of starting the conversation process all over again if you were to select a second option. This saves time from the user’s point of view and makes the interaction more efficient.

The Inclusion of GIFs, Audio, Video and Files

Another important update is the inclusion of GIFS, Audio, Video and Files. You can now send a variety of content using the Messenger Bot. This opens the door for businesses to provide complex information to the user without being redirected to another channel to view the content.  Airline companies for example can make use of this update to send the user’s tickets directly on the Messenger chat. Businesses can also provide a more human like interaction by the use of GIF’s and videos that can be played directly on the Messenger.

Account Linking

Perhaps the most important update of them all is one that changes the dynamics of the Messenger Bot with its ability to sync customer accounts with messenger. Users can log in to their customer accounts on the brand’s website directly through Messenger to make payments or browse order information. This is an important update that encourages more businesses to consider the idea of investing in a Bot for Messenger owing to its ease of use for customers.

Ratings and Reviews

Users can now rate Messenger Bots and provide feedback on their experience directly on Messenger. This is an interesting new feature that will help set a new expectation for businesses to push for a better strategy and acquire higher ratings as compared to their competitors.

The new update also brings a potentially unpleasant feature for businesses in the form of an option to mute a Bot conversation similar to how they may mute their friends on Facebook. This provides a challenging opportunity for businesses to opt for a sound strategy that provides a favourable conversation experience to ensure the Bot is not silenced by the user.
